Brain Memory Improvement Techniques

Your memory is so precious. It is that window you have to the past events in your life. Of course when you remember events from the distant past and can't remember something that occurred today, this is difficult to deal with. This may make you wish that you could work to improve your memory in some way. Well, you can. Instead of frustration, there are things to do to work on bettering your memory.

Of course first we need to talk a bit about how we learn things before talking about tips to improve memory. When new information is presented to you, the brain must take that info and then decode it and what it means. The brain has a specific way of interpreting the information you receive. When you focus on something, then the information learned is then filed in your memory.

Consider a filing cabinet and putting a new file inside. This is like your brain. Later when you want to get that information out again, the brain simply pulls it out of the files. It's just like going to your filing cabinet and pulling out the file again that you put in awhile ago. The information is all there.

At one point in time your memory may have been excellent and this was probably something you took for granted. The problem is that if you don't exercise the brain and learn new ways to think, your skills may begin to diminish. It's just like an athlete. They may practice for years and become great. Then they stop practicing. Although they may still have all those skills and all the information, the athlete can get out and play if they haven't been keeping up on the skills and practicing each day.

One method of memory improvement is to make sure you focus on the things going on all around. Many of us make the mistake of only half paying attention to people when they speak to use or other events going on. It's easy to focus on something else we are doing or thinking about. Make sure that you learn to focus on the present and events occurring so you can store it to remember later.

Information that is new can be made more familiar. You can do this by associating it with previous information. It's also important that you remember that a variety of learning styles are out there and finding the one for you is important. There are some that learn well visually while other people learn by just hearing things. Take the time to figure out in which way you learn the best. Then you can use this strength to help you improve your memory even more.

Asking questions can help you remember things and researching things can be helpful if you are unfamiliar with a topic. While at first you may not understand it, another type of explanation may help you comprehend it. Doing a bit more research can provide you with more knowledge, helping you to realize what things you need to remember about the information.

Taking the time to roll things over in your mind a few times is helpful when you want to remember it. When you repeat it in your mind, it helps to make it easier for you to remember. Helpful methods also include using visual aids to remember or using word association to help spur the memory. Use all the methods and tricks out there to help make the most of your memory.

Can You Increase Your Brain Power? By Steven Gillman

Super Mind Acadamy - increase brain functioning, accellerate learning, brainwave entrainment

Can You Increase Your Brain Power?
By Steven Gillman

What Do You Think?

Can you solve problems easily? Can you learn new things efficiently? Can you increase your brain power? Whatever you think and feel about these questions, those thoughts and feelings will have an effect on your brain function, because brain power and psychology are intimately connected.

Expectation

Checkmate in four moves, the book said, so I looked until I found it. I love chess puzzles, and I used to think those elegant solutions were not often possible in real games. Then it occurred to me that they probably are there, but that without the expectation of finding them, I settled for less worthy moves. I find the elegant ones more often now.

A man I know spent his childhood with wealthy kids and their families. Is it coincidence that he now makes more money than most of us? Did his rich friends give him money? Did they help him in business? No, no, and no. He simply feels that a certain level of income is normal, and his mind will always push him towards that level.

Are you beginning to see how expectation and belief can expand or limit not only your mind, but your life? So how do you apply this to increasing your brain power?

What Can You Do?

I'll never say that anything is possible, but what you think is possible certainly affects what you accomplish. If you think you can increase your brain power, you are far more likely to do what is necessary to get that result. Do you think you can? Do you think you are intelligent? If not, how do you change your outlook?

Don't worry. I'm not going to tell you to stand in front of a mirror making positive affirmations. There is an easier way.

Evidence Is More Powerful Than Affirmation

What you look for, you find, and this changes your mind. Want to prove this to yourself? Watch for polite drivers for a few days, making a mental note to yourself each time you see one. Focus just on the polite ones, ignoring the rest. It will change your experience of driving in a positive way. Then watch for rude drivers for a few days, and you'll begin to see them all over.

If you actually do the exercise above, you'll get the point. You experience the world not just according to what is there, but even more according to what you pay attention to. Now, to apply this to your thinking process:

Find your successes. Notice when you learn something new. Write it down even. Point out your problem-solving successes to yourself, and you'll have more of them. When you are thinking clearly and effectively, tell yourself, "Look at that brain go!"

Telling yourself you are intelligent may help, but evidence is more convincing than affirmation. So if you are working to improve your mind, just watch, and you will find examples of progress, however large or small. Focus on these, and remember them. You can start doing this right now.

Steve Gillman has been studying brain improvement, concentration, creative problem solving, and related topics for years. Some of what he has discovered can be found on his website: http://www.IncreaseBrainPower.com, as well as in his free Brain Power Newsletter : http://www.IncreaseBrainPower.com/Newsletter.html

Improve Your Cognitive Ability By Helping With Your Kids' Homework

Improve Your Cognitive Ability By Helping With Your Kids' Homework

Every parent wants to help their child to do well in school. As you already know, helping your children with their homework is one of the most reliable ways to improve their academic performance. Things have probably changed quite a bit since you were in school yourself, but the basics will never really change – and by helping your children with their homework, you'll be exercising your own brain and improving your own cognitive abilities, not just your child's.
It may take you a little time to get back into the swing of things. Most likely, it’s been a long time since you took algebra and if you're like most of us, you've forgotten much of what you learned. If you need to, follow along with the sample problems given in the book to refresh yourself so you can help your child with their work. You can check your child's math homework by doing the problems yourself independently. If your child comes up with a different answer, then help them work through the problem again until they find the right answer.
You can also improve your cognitive abilities while helping your children out with their English homework. You probably don't remember all of the grammatical rules you learned back then; most of us don't! You'll relearn this material quickly though and improve your own reading and writing skills even as you help your child improve theirs.
Once your children see how interested you are in their homework, they'll be more likely to come to you when they need help as well as being more motivated to get their homework done. Doing homework with your child can also be a family bonding experience; kids don't always feel comfortable asking their teachers for help, but they will come to you.
All too often though, parents aren't familiar enough with the material their kids are learning or are in need of a refresher to help them with their homework. Helping your kids with your homework helps them do better in school while giving you the mental workout you need to improve your cognitive abilities. If you have more than one child, you'll have your work cut out for you, since you'll have to learn what all of them are learning

You can get information which can help you help your kids online if you don't find your child's school books helpful. There are many websites which are devoted to helping parents to get back up to speed on these long-forgotten school subjects in order to help their kids. You can get in touch with your children's teachers if you're unclear about anything – explain that you're interested in helping your child with their homework and they'll be glad to assist you.
Best of all, you'll remember more of what you learn now that you’re doing it for the second time. You'll have more background knowledge and some skills you didn't have as a child. You'll gain a new perspective on this old coursework; you'll know just what your kids are doing and how long it should take.

Is There a Difference between the Minds of a "Genius" and an "Ordinary" Person?

Is There a Difference between the Minds of a "Genius" and an "Ordinary" Person?

When you think of the mind of a genius, what do you think of? Someone with lightning quick thoughts who can come to accurate conclusions instantaneously?

Actually, Michael Michalko is the author of a book called "Cracking Creativity," and he says that the difference between the so-called "genius" and "ordinary person" is that the genius simply knows HOW to think, instead of WHAT to think. This means that the genius has time to create new concepts that are entirely innovative, and they can tell themselves that anything is possible -- because in their minds, it is.

In short, geniuses look at problems in a different way than most people do. They combine thoughts, images and ideas in different ways, and they can recognize patterns that occur in the world and that most of us don't see. They can make connections between objects that most of us wouldn't think of connecting. For example, Leonardo da Vinci connected a bell ringing to a flat stone hitting the water and causing waves. This conclusion led him to think that sound, like water, also traveled in "waves."

The genius can also think in opposites that most of us might not think of. For example, in 1928 Danish physicist Niel Bohr told people light should be imagined as both waves and particles, but not simultaneously.

Geniuses can also think in metaphors. This is also considered to be a sign of genius. The great philosopher Aristotle thought that if a person could compare two disparate areas of existence and find a relationship between them, that person was indeed gifted.

Someone who has these types of exceptional abilities can also analyze how "accidental" creativity happens. The question to ask is not "why" it happened, but what did it do?

Many who are considered geniuses are very productive. For example, Thomas Edison was the owner of over a thousand patents. Michalko, in his book, "Cracking Creativity," says that geniuses create so many ideas because their thoughts are so fluent. Their minds are always going, always busy. They literally think all the time. Michalko also states that most of us can develop these characteristics as well. We have to train our brains to be more fluent, like that of the genius.
Buckminster Fuller says that everyone is actually born a genius. It is society that takes this ability away from them. Others believe that genius simply appears, spontaneously, and that so-called "higher education" introduces a kind of conditioned thinking that can actually take away from this innate genius. Just because one has a lot of knowledge doesn't necessarily mean that one is a genius. Excellent memory, true, but genius, not necessarily. What's good to know, though, is that you don't have to be a genius to be creative. We are all capable of not just creative thought, but in fact true genius, such as we may not have dreamed. Charles Baudelaire called genius "no more than childhood recaptured at will."

How can you become a genius? It's a matter of retraining yourself to think as a genius would. You can do so by following the above tips. Start to think about the world around you in a different way. Think in metaphors, think in opposites, and, simply, "think" more. If an idea doesn't come out exactly the way you thought it would, don't ask yourself why it failed. Ask yourself instead what you accomplished and proved.

If you want to think like an inventor does, look at designs as they exist around you and think about how you might change them. Max Planck is the father of quantum theory, and he believed that scientists had to have "a vivid intuitive imagination, for new ideas are not generated by deduction, but by artistically creative imagination." Einstein as well was clear on the fact that his theories came as a result of "free invention of the imagination."

Ezra Pound said, "Genius is the capacity to see 10 things where the ordinary man sees one, and where the man of talent sees two or three, plus the ability to register that multiple perception in the material of his art."

How can I Improve my Memory?

Our memory is so important since it helps us to keep those life events in our mind for the years to come. Of course when you remember a memory from 15 years before but you forget the grocery list, it can be so irritating. There are many who want to find a way that they can improve upon their memory. Well, there are actually things you can do to help other than just dealing with frustration over things you forget.

It's important that we take a look at how things are learned before we get involved in methods for memory improvement. When you are involved in a new experience or you hear something new, the brain has to take that information and decode it. It takes the information and interprets it in certain ways. When you are focusing on something and you learn something new, the brain takes the information and files it.

It is much like putting information into a file cabinet that you open up. Once you want to remember that information again, the brain brings it out for you. It's just like walking back to the filing cabinet and retrieving the file you put in there before.

More than likely you can remember when your memory was great and you probably were used to that. When we don't work on keeping our brain in good shape and learning new ways that we can think, our memory skill may begin to slip a bit. Think of a dancer. While she may have spend time training for all her moves, when she stops training, she won't be able to get out there and start performing if she hasn't been practicing for many years. It's like that with the memory as well.

One way to improve memory is to constantly be aware of all that is going on around you. Many people only half listen when other people talk to them. It is easy to focus on another thing that you need to do instead of what they say. Make sure you start focusing on what is going on around you so you can store it and bring it back up in the future.

When you get new information, work to associate it with something that you already know to make it easier to remember. There are a variety of different learning methods, so find the one that works out for you. There are some people the remember best when they have visual aids to help out. Others learn best from actually hearing things. When you figure out your own learning style, you can work on it further to help improve your memory.

If you don't know something, find out more about it by researching it on your own. While it may seem difficult to learn, if you find a different way of learning it or a different explanation it may make more sense to you. Doing the research on something new helps you to acquire more knowledge, which will help you figure out which things you need to keep in your mind.

When you really want to ensure something is remembered, think about it and throw it around in your brain a few times. The more you repeat something in your mind, the better you'll learn it and be able to recall it in the future. Using visual aids and even word association can help with your memory too. Use the various memory aids available to help improve your memory.

Keepng Your Brain Healthy By Keeping Your Body In Shape

There is no shortage of data out there that proves society as a whole needs to get their bodies moving. People of all ages seem to spend tons of time in front of the TV, exploring the internet, or playing video games. We all know this can lead to obesity as well as zap the energy out of your body. However, most people don’t realize that a sedentary lifestyle can also reduce their cognitive abilities. This will be more evident as a person gets older.

When you engage in exercise your brain benefits because more blood will flow to that region. More energy is produced as additional waste in the body is removed. Those individuals that exercise on a regular basis have larger cerebral blood vessels. It is believed that this is a key aspect of having a healthy brain at any age.

Yoga is one of the best forms of exercise that you can take part in so that your cognitive abilities are their very best. It takes a great deal of concentration to learn yoga at first so don’t be discouraged. The more you practice it the more it will become a part of your thinking process. Then you can move into more advanced forms of yoga which will offer even more benefits for your thinking process.

It may surprise you to learn that the brain uses about 20% of the energy you consume each day. Just like with your body, the more you exercise it the more it will produce energy. If you feel that it is stressful to get through the day, to make decisions, and just to juggle all you have to think about then you need to change the approach. By getting enough physical exercise you will also be giving your brain the level of energy it needs to be on top of the game.

What is also a connection is that many people that don’t get enough physical exercise actually talk themselves out of the task. They put it off until the very end of the day, making one excuse after another. The brain is a very guilty party in this type of decision making. However, when you do get physical exercise and your brain benefits from it, things appear in a new light.

Instead of helping you to make excuses and to find ways to avoid exercising your brain will tell you that you should exercise. It will encourage you to make time for it and to be proud of your efforts. Once you get to that point, engaging in physical exercise on a regular basis becomes second nature instead of a forced action that you take part in. More chemicals that keep you happy will be produced as well so you can have a better attitude than before.

No matter how old you are or how little you currently exercise, you can make some significant improvements in your life. Start out with a commitment to exercise for 15 minutes every other day. Then slowly increase your time by 5 minute intervals until you are at 30 minutes. Then make the commitment to do those 30 minutes of exercise every day. Working up to it this way makes the goal more achievable and you won’t be overwhelmed along the way.

Make it a goal to get at least 30 minutes each day of exercise. If you have a very busy lifestyle, try to fit it in during the early morning hours. This way you won’t be blowing it off due to a lack of time later in the day. You will also have a great attitude to start the day. This is because you will know you already accomplished something great. There are enough types of exercises out there to take part in so you never have to waste your time doing those you don’t love. The IQ Mind Brain Blog is from Leon Edward who helps others improve brain power, Increase IQ, Memory, Focus, Concentration,Creativity, Public Speaking, Reading Speed, Time Management and Even Stress Management.
